To achieve our goal of fostering a private or charter school welcoming to diverse religious backgrounds, the Foundation has begun the task of investigating the requirements, laws, and cost associated with opening such a school in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
At this time, the majority of private schools in North Carolina are run by established churches of particular religious denominations, and while they may accept students who are not adherents to their faith, they show little tolerance for expressions of beliefs other than their own, and may, in some cases, compel the students to participate in prayer and other religions activities. Other, non-religious private and charter schools strictly forbid any expression of religious belief whatsoever.
We at the Eidolon Foundation seek to establish a non-denominational private school welcoming to diverse religious backgrounds and alternative lifestyles, where students are allowed the option of expressing their beliefs as they so choose (within acceptable social guidelines).
Although grade levels have not been determined at this point, the school will offer a solid curriculum in the core academic subjects, taught by state-certified teachers, as well as college preparatory classes. For its part, the Eidolon Foundation will not operate or manage the school, but rather, will assist in its formation as separate non-profit to be incorporated as a private or charter school in North Carolina.
For the purpose of funding the school, the Eidolon Foundation will designate a portion of its annual budget to be invested towards the founding of the school, the exact amount of which will be determined each year by the board of directors. This money will be set aside or invested in bonds, money market accounts, or other high-interest rate savings accounts.
However, due to the immense cost associated with financing such a school, we presently have no viable means to open a community center without additional funding. Even so, the school remains a key goal of the Eidolon Foundation, and we have high hopes the funding for this project will one day become available.
